BLT Sandwich Café (2022)

A story that begins with Asou Riku, a high school student, as he receives a letter from his estanged father and finds himself in front of a sandwich café La Grande Baguette. Inside, he encounters a fujoshi with the name Mayo who spends most of her days fantasizing about men in BL scenarios.

I've spent months subbing this drama, but I still need some time to recheck. There'll be a new episode every week, so subscribe to my kofi for free if you want to be updated with new episodes.

This drama follows the story of six people:

  • Mayo, a fujoshi who fantasizes about the men at her workplace and imagines them in BL scenarios, causing her to literally explode into nosebleeds upon witnessing such moments. Her name is meant to represent mayonnaise.
  • Riku, a high school student looking for his father. Also known as Fresh Lettuce / Shy Young Lettuce.
  • Tom, a foreign owner of the BLT café. Also known as Sweet Tomato.
  • Bun, the flirty part-time worker at the BLT café. Also known as Salty Bacon. His name can also represent a sandwich bun.
  • Lily, a regular of the café who is focused on money, but has a good heart.
  • Kinoko, quick-to-anger girl with a princess complex. Her name means "mushroom".

Note: This drama is absolutely chaotic and there are so many hard-to-hear lines, so there may be errors.

Translation notes

Episode 1

There wasn't much space in the opening credits to explain, but I'm using the word herbivore, which is used in Japanese to describe gentle men who don't aggressively pursue women. Men who simply want to graze peacefully alongside women, hence the herbivore.

For anyone who doesn't know, BLT stands for bacon (Bun), lettuce (Riku) and tomato (Tom) sandwich. How funny that BLT contains BL as well. Good choice by the manga artist for sure. Speaking of manga... It's very much different for the most part.

Episode 2

Chose to go with hypovolemia, even though I'd normally go for something else, but for some reason, it just screamed Lily. For those who don't know, it's a condition of low extracellular fluid in the body, here resulting from blood loss.

Episode 3

You may be confused watching the first few minutes of this episode because it's like an alternative cut of some of the scenes from episode 2. But this isn't my mistake.

The Kinoko singing scenes... I tried my best to decipher it. At least I think I got the main point across.

I've left some lines empty (maybe like five?) this episode because I'm not fully sure what the characters meant. I have a vague idea, but I don't want to use it in case it's wrong.

Kinoko and Bun fighting this episode was the highlight of this ep.

Episode 4

The lines when they arrive at tailor shop were really something... Not sure if I got the intended meaning there, but it should be okay.

Kinoko in this ep went a crazy speed and trying to decipher her was a struggle, but hopefully there are no major errors here.
